Background: Diabetes mellitus is a disease that can lead to various chronic complications. One of the most common complications is Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN), a disorder of the peripheral nerves that causes a decrease or loss of protective sensation in the feet of patients with diabetes mellitus. One of the interventions that can be used to manage DPN is foot massage Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of foot massage on protective sensation in the feet of patients with type II diabetes mellitus at Gatak Community Health Center, Sukoharjo. Methods: This study used a nonequivalent control group design with a total sample of 20 respondents, divided into two groups: 10 respondents in the intervention group and 10 respondents in the control group. Data were collected using a 10-gram monofilament (homemade) examination. Results: Data analysis using the Mann-Whitney test showed a p-value < α (p = 0.003; α = 0.05), indicating a significant effect of foot massage on improving protective sensation in the feet of patients with diabetes mellitus at Gatak Community Health Center, Sukoharjo. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, healthcare providers are recommended to encourage and implement regular foot massage for patients with type II diabetes mellitus as an effort to manage diabetic peripheral neuropathy and maintain protective sensation in the feet.
